    Henry Parsons Crowell founds the company, based on the conviction that everyone, wherever they are, should have access to good nutrition.

    1850

    Ferdinand Schumacher founds German Mills American Cereal Company in Akron, Ohio. At the same time, John Stuart founds North Star Mills Company in Canada.

    1877

    German Mills American Cereal Company and North Star Mills Company merge and are subsequently renamed “The Quaker Oats Company”.  “Quaker Oats” is registered as the first breakfast cereal trademark brand, with the image of the smiling Quaker, which has become instantly recognizable to the public.  Both owners, Henry Seymour and William Heston, claim that they chose the name “Quaker” as it was synonymous with high values, quality and honesty.

    Henry Parsons Crowell buys the bankrupt company “Quaker Mill” in Ravenna, Ohio and with it he acquires its most valuable asset, the Quaker trademark.

    Seven of the biggest American oat mills unite under the name of “The American Cereal Company”.

    “ The American Cereal Company” changes its name to “The Quaker Oats Company”.

    The classic cylindrical “Quaker Oats” packaging is launched.

    1997

    Quaker make the first official food-related health claim for oats, approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The new claim relates to the heart and it is displayed on the packaging of the respective Quaker oats cereals as follows: “The soluble fibers contained in oats, as part of a low saturated fat and cholesterol diet, may reduce the danger of heart disease.”

    2007

    On their 130th anniversary and after a long and well established presence in the Greek market, Tasty Foods takes over  Quaker distribution in Greece and imports Quaker Cruesli, now known as “Quaker Crunchy Bites”.

    Quaker Crunchy Bites are launched in Greece with great success in the cereal market, which has continued up to the present day.
